Varieties of sandstones
Depending on the constituent materials, colors, and places of origin
sandstone can be of various types.
- Chocolate Sandstones- It comes under Proterozoic
arenaceous sedimentary rocks. Chocolate sandstones are mainly found
in Northwest highland of Scotland. These sandstones are rich in iron
oxide. Mainly used in exterior wall cladding.
- Marson copper- Also known as Bhilwara-Brown. It is made
of grains of quartz and other fairly uniform size minerals.
- Dholpur beige- This white colored sandstone is being used
in a no. of historical buildings and monuments.
- Agra red- It is very smooth and soft which makes it idle
for stone handicrafts. It is also called Dholpur red.
- Dholpur pink- It has uniform grain size and durability,
mostly used for exterior cladding of walls and boundaries.

properties, it is mainly used for exterior cladding in sea shore
buildings. It is also called LLP-yellow.
